The Madison side ha$ pretty much rolled over their pre-season opposition and th£ home crowd was hoping for a good game. After the col£ spring weather conditions the team had been practicing under, it was nice to get a warm, comfortable day — it was a great day for soccer. •
Unfortunately, thfc Madison side opened the scoring first with a goal not half way through the first 40 mity utes. After that lapse, th* Panthers started to take charge. Sophomore Johh . LetSen’s play at mid-field set the tone for the turn-around. He continuously won contested balls and redirected all head balls to his attacking side. With about 12 minutes left in the game, junior Ralph Pace took a long free kick from about 40 yards out.
Senior Garner Smythe out leaped the Madison defenders and headed the ball in for the tying goal. The game ended after two 5-minute overtime periods with the score still knotted at 1 to 1.
The Lady Panthers were not to have the same result with their away game against the Lady Mountaineers the same day. It was a hard fought contest from the beginning with the games only goal scored by the Madison team late in the first half. It was a high, lofty ball that went in off the hands of goalie Robyn Pivarnik.
The Lady Panthers didn't let up and continued to put pressure on the Madison side. Junior Adrianne Moore had a breakaway chance that didn’t just missed when her kick went wide of the Madison net.
