Spring is here and is known as a time for renewal. It was also a time to clean and spruce up your home after a long winter.

Spring cleaning was more of a task then than now. There were no vacuum cleaners, so brooms were used for the inside cleaning. Blankets and rugs were hung on the clothesline for the sun to freshen and brighten up. Some were beaten to help get the dust off. Feather ticks were aired to be stored for the summer.

The wood stoves had been burning all winter, and they created even more dust. Paint was fairly expensive, so most every one used “white washing" to whiten up and it did make everything iook clean. It was also cheaper and more economical.
