underway
The Triennial census of school age children is now underway for the year 2002.
This census, last undertaken in 1999, gives the state the information it needs to apportion the sales tax revenues to the counties. This census is required by state! law, and is now taking placer in all the counties of the Commonwealth. '•;;
All children between tKe ages of 5 and 19, living in Rappahannock County, need to be counted, so that the county may receive its fair share of state tax revenues..-"
This school census, hoy^ ever, is far more valuablethan just as a revenue pro-! ducer. At least several times) during the year, resident^* and former residents call oi)) visit to request informatidh) from the past census years to* help them with personal or) financial needs.
Questions such as birth, dates, ages when in school,ages of siblings, etc., are often needed to validate some claims to Social Security or insurance benefits.
Copies of the census reports are kept in the Rappahannock County Public Schools office. All schools iii the county will be provided census forms.
Copies of the census form will also be available at tl%£ School Board Office at -!6 Schoolhouse Road in Washington.
Parents whose children are educated outside the county, or are home schooled, may get the forms at the county library, or by calling Helen Williams at 937-4279, and a copy of the form will be mailed.
