As photographers and writers, we travel all over the U.S. and see communities that, until just a few years ago, were not unlike ours and then, after the first incursion of a commercial development, more immediately followed, like dominoes, and there went the neighborhood.
Because we all pay taxes here, our voices are equal.
We should stop shooting the messengers and listen to the message.
All of us, those locally born and newcomers, are united in our desire to protect what we all love.
We need to join together, stick to our guns and force our elected officials to pay more than lip service to our concerns.
They are supposed to represent our wishes. Those who are hired and those who are elected can be replaced.
Contrary to the mantra, “growth is inevitable,” we do not need commercial strips lining 211 to provide services to the county.
Let’s not let negative segues deter us from maintaining the beauty and peace of all of our lifestyles.
