Finishing starts
When the subcontractor for BRT finished installing the four-inch prefabricated walls and eight-inch ceiling, and Seaway House was under cover, the Zindel crew took over. “We just love the work," Mrs. Scoville said. Everything down to the handcrafted knobs were done “just perfectly." The BRT may have built the structure, but Zindel and crew made it a house.
The Scovilles were especially impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship Sam Wayland fabricated on the job the curved railing on the loft overlooking the living room. The railing spans the living room and was made from six pieces of w ood laminated together.
Two other pieces of craftsmanship w'hich the Scovilles were especially pleased with were the custom built barn doors which framed Mr Scovilles most precious cabinet, and the hand hewn heart of pine entryway coat rack built by Sam Wayland.
The barn doors are upstairs in the loft. Built byFred Naramore they are made from rough cut barn wood and they slide on a track (as a barn door would). When open they live on either side of Mr. Scovilles grandfather’s cabinet which was used in his broom company business back in Utah. When closed they become the doors closing off the master bedroom.
Almost a year ago the work was finished and the Scovilles began to settle in. Each day there are discoveries and they and the house get more and more comfortable with each other.
There is much of this house that is reminiscent of the sea; it very much appears to be safely at port.
