One of the most compelling paintings in the exhibition is the pastel, Before Pruning Lee’s Orchard. Rows of apple trees in very early spring, and the alleys between them, march straight over a hill in a powerful display of perspective. The tree limbs climb displaying the pregnant reddish color that indicates bloom is near. Red shoots of new growth reach skyward suggesting imminent change - both by the pruner s saw and the coming spring. The trees are
