The Dried Flower Sale and House Ibur, traditional fall fund raiser for the Episcopal Church Women of Trinity Church in Washington is set for the weekend of Oct. 19 and 20. This year all the tour homes are in the Washington area.
The Kevis House, home to Charles and Carroll Kevis is situated on Main Street in the town of Washington. This early log and stucco over frame home is thought to date from the 1750’s because it was situated on the old Colonial Road to the western frontier. It was the town “lock-up” in earliest times, and in fact, the original walls of the town jail, which became the county jail in 1833, are still in place.
The Kevis House represents the first century of domestic American architecture in the three homes in this year’s House Tbur. Over the years it has had many owners and been used for a variety of purposes. The structure, as it appears today, is the result of combining the original mid-eighteenth century building with a nearby 1850 frame farmhouse, During the Civil War
