During the late 19th century, the mourning period usually lasted one year, throughout which gloomy and solemn mourning symbols were displayed. The deceased’s home displayed a crepe scarf on the door. Inside, the bereaved family draped the room in which the deceased lay, as well as the entire downstairs of the house.
