Quite a large crowd attended the “Singing and Pickin’” party at Salem Fire Hall on Friday and before it all ended announcements were circulating as to the next party which has been scheduled for Friday, May 2.

Our community extends congratulations to Tommy Brown, an employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation who was recently recognized for his 30 years of service. Brown and his wife the former Joyce Jenkins, reside in the Slate Mills area and are members of Slate Mills Baptist Church.

Shelvy Frazier continues to improve and on Friday he and Mrs. Frazier visited Mrs. Mary Burke in Rochelle.

Belated birthday wishes go out to Billy Meade of Hash Lane and Ronnie Cubbage who celebrated their day on Monday, and Mark Robinson who observed his on Sunday.

Wedding anniversary wishes go out to cousins Harry and Shirley Racey, who will celebrate another year together today. We wish for them many more.

Our friends in the neighborhood of Woodville who are without a reporter at this time have asked us to announce activities at their church.

Shiloh Baptist Church at 618 Red Oak Mountain Road will be having a “Relay for Life” bake and yard sale on Saturday, April 19 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. and on Sunday Morning at 6:15 a.m.
