Megan Wheatley anchored the team at center midfield disrupting the other team’s flow and sparking our offense.
Kara Corbin and Emma Dodd-Henze were awesome at both ends of the field. They provided some strength up front against the bigger Fluvanna team as forwards. As central defenders they stymied multiple drives against our goal.
At the end of the second half, as everyone was exhausted. The two of them won footraces against Fluvanna forwards, blocking shots and forcing balls to the outside.
Katie Huang was tireless on the defensive wing in her first U12 game. She continually stepped up and drove through the ball. Annelise Riedel, in the first soccer game of her career, got right into the action and made some fine plays. Taylor Light and Sarah Hazel also gave it everything they had, challenging the Fluvanna team and keeping us in the game.
The effort was definitely there. The challenge now is to increase the team skill levels and start controlling the ball better.
