Rappahannock News Staff Writer The Rappahannock County Sheriff's Office recently received a $7,000 Highway Safety grant from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles to help defray overtime costs and increase speed enforcement throughout the county. Sheriff Larry Sherertz said the funding will “offer deputies overtime pay to do nothing but speed enforcement in the three areas most affected by speeders - the Town of Washington, Flint Hill and Sperryville.”

• On Monday, Oct. 25 the Town of Washington’s Planning Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall on Gay Street. • On Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m., the Washington Town Council will continue its meeting of Oct. 13. A highlight of the agenda is a presentation of options for a proposed wastewater treatment system by Herb White, president of WW Associates, the prime contractors for implementation of the proposed wastewater system. • On Wednesday, Oct. 27 the Rappahannock County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) will meet at the courthouse at 10 a.m. Discussion will cover the Mitigation Plan which is being reviewed by state authorities, as well as emergency related subjects brought up by . attendees. To accommodate holiday schedules, the November and December meetings have been consolidated into one on Wednesday, Dec. 1. • Oct. 28 is the last day the Registrar’s Office will mail out absentee ballots. Absentee voters have until Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. to vote in person at the Registrar’s Office.
