Williams is also in the process of applying for a mini-grant to enable the department to purchase additional radar equipment.
“As it is now, our radar only works one way,” he said. “This new equipment would enable us to run radar on drivers coming from both directions and increase our enforcement capabilities.”
Meanwhile, a new radar trailer, owned by the Virginia Department of Transportation, is in place on Warren Avenue to keep motorists aware of their speed as they come into the town of Washington. The speed limit there is 25 miles per hour. The trailer is run by a solar panel atop the unit, which requires periodic recharging.
