Rappahannock currently has about 200 absentee voters registered. No absentee ballots will be mailed to voters after Oct. 28. The deadline to vote absentee in person is Oct. 30 at 5 p.m. Ballots can be mailed in until Nov. 2.
Newlin noted an increase in absentee voters this year, perhaps due to the ongoing war in Iraq.
“This is the first time in my 16 years here that there has been an active war going on,” she said. “This could certainly account for that increase.”
