In its continuing presentation of emerging local and national artists, r. h. ballard art, rug & home, will exhibit the paintings of Thomas Mullany from Oct. 23 through Nov. 15.
An opening reception for the artist kicks off the exhibit on Saturday, Oct. 23 from 4—7 p.m., at the gallery at 307 Main Street in Washington.
In the show entitled “The View From Here,” the artist gives his “view” on a range of subjects, from the local to the Irish landscape (from a trip he and his family took last year), fanciful imagery, humorous word and image play, and historical renderings.
Displayed in all the works is a mastery and advanced understanding of paint and light reminiscent of a number of his historical mentors, e.g. Thomas Cole and the Hudson River School, as well as such 20th century American masters as Edward Hopper and Grant Wood.
A graduate of the Corcoran School of Art, Mullany moved to Washington
