Residents react to sign
stealing, destruction

Although registering to vote is a simple procedure, keeping a presidential candidate’s sign up and in one piece is proving to be quite difficult in Rappahannock County.
In a call to the Rappahannock News, Steven Manning voiced his extreme displeasure over the vandalism of a Kerry/Edwards sign in Amissville on Route 211 near the fire department. Manning noticed the destruction on his way to the post office there. The sign was one of eight large Kerry/Edwards signs throughout the county.
“My uncle fought and died for our freedom and our right to express our opinions,” said Manning. “It hurts me tremendously that someone would do this.”
Elizabeth Streagle, the owner of the Amissville sign, said, “I think it is a sad situation.”
