The RCHS cross country team dropped a close dual meet to the visiting Strasburg Rams Oct. 13, but look to be peaking at the right time for the Bull Run District meet on Oct. 27 at their home course at the Bleu Rock Inn across from the high school.
The Rams won by three, edging the Panther’s 29 points with a low score of 26.
“This was the third time we’ve faced Strasburg this year,” RCHS coach Mick Strand said. “It was the first time we haven’t beat them and we came close even though our number two runner Kevin Martin was sick.”
Sophomore Alex Ramey won his third straight race for the Panthers, with a time of 18:05. Ramey set the course record a week ago with a time of 17:37.
Second place overall went to Josh Makela, who broke the 19minute barrier for the 5-kilometer distance for the first time, finishing in 18:57.
The Panthers finished first, second, seventh (Will Boelte, 20:43 ), eighth (Juan Tisera, 21:07), and eleventh (Ethan Russel, 21:50).
