When the RCHS freshmen football team hosted Page County on Monday, Oct. 11, RCHS was looking to do what no team had done all season: hand the visiting 6-0 Page Panthers their first loss.
The RCHS Panthers did just that with a 13-12 win, their first of the season.
“To pull this together against a 6-0 team was just incredible,” said RCHS coach Monte Clinedinst. “My hat is off to them. I knew they could do it. I’m very proud of them.”
Clinedinst said he saw a change in the team two weeks ago in the Panthers’ 26-13 loss at Madison County.
“The team finally started waking up, but not until the third quarter,” Clinedinst said. “We let them get up too much on us. If we’d come ready to play, we could have won that game.”
Rappahannock County didn’t have that problem against Page County.
Trailing 6-0, the Panthers got on the board in the second quarter with a heads-up play from Nathan Grant.
Panther quarterback Nathan Butler completed a short pass over the middle to Corey Winters, who lost the ball struggling for extra yards.
