“I’ve never seen this kind of thing happen,” she said. “It makes me so angry, ashamed and embarrassed. I just want this to stop.”
37 Bush/Cheney signs
Forrest Whorton, who lives in Castleton, placed more than two dozen Bush/Cheney signs around the county as well. On Monday as he headed west on Route 211, he noticed that all his signs had been ripped off the stakes from the ECOW market all the way to Massies Comer. Then as he headed north on Route 522, he saw that his signs were gone all the way to Route 662 in Huntly. All total, 37 of his signs had either been ripped off or totally destroyed.
“I know that all the signs were in place as of 8 p.m. on Sunday,” he said in an interview Monday night.
Reporting vandalism
Whorton said he reported the vandalism to the Sheriff’s Office Monday morning and was told by a dispatcher that she had received other reports of signs missing.
However, Rappahannock County Sheriff Larry Sherertz, said his office had not received any such complaints as of press time.
“I’m not seeing an issue here at all,” said Sherertz. “Unless there is considerable expense involved, or an actual suspect, there is not much we can do.”
