“In a county of about 7,000 people,” said Registrar Nancy Newlin, “that is significant-^ especially when you consider that about 1,000 of them are students. It means most of our residents are registered to vote.”

An active voter is one who responded to a confirmation notice sent out by the Registrar’s Office. Voters in inactive status did not respond to the notice, but can still vote on Election Day by simply filling out a form at their polling place.
