Chosen 1979 Woman of the Year by the Rappahannock News, Mrs. Mary Botts Quaintance has led uncountable numbers of youngsters towards educational goals and respect for others during her 48 years in the county’s public school district. As first teacher, then principal of the neighborhood school in Sperryville and finally as principal of the county’s consolidated elementary school, Mary Botts Quaintance set an example of deportment for her charges. She could say, “Do as I do,” not “Do as I say,” to the students who looked up to her as a model. She was the daughter of D. Lyle Miller and Elizabeth Strother Miller and grew up on the farm in Gid Brown Hollow where Mrs. D. Lyle Miller, Jr. currently lives.
Northern Virginia Community College at Manassas announced the following students named to the Dean’s list. Margaret Johnson Snell of Manassas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson of Amissville, has qualified for the Dean’s List for the fall quarter. Mrs. Snell earned a grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale carrying a course load of 16 hours.
