the building site; they were quickly put to challenge by RCHS assistant wrestling coach Nick Prieto to carry three bricks at a time. Then four.
By the end of two hours, the team had toted some 600 bricks to be used in building the home.
According to Hughes, approximately 20 people had been at the site earlier, and were ready to call it a day when the team showed up that afternoon.
“It was quite an amazing sight, all of that young energy at the end of . the day just about when we were getting ready to call it quits,” said Hughes. “It was amazing how much they got done.”
The team returned to the high school muddy and tired, with parents wondering what kind of practice they had been through.
“I don’t think E.J. knew what to think,” said Julie Estes of her 215-lb. son. E.J. Estes just laughed and said that it had not been that bad, and was actually fun.
“I think it is a great idea,” said Liz Blubaugh, mother of team heavyweight Morgan Blubaugh. “A lot of kids don’t know what it is like to give to others just for the sake of giving.”
For the Rappahannock High School wrestling team, the season of giving was also a way to stay in shape.
