With a portion of the Avon Hall property lying adjacent to the buildings which currently house Rappahannock County governing bodies, the purchase is a logical one to McCarthy. “The public should not pay someone else’s mortgage,” he said.
• McCarthy looks forward to the construction of an additional gymnasium and improvements to Rappahannock County Schools.
While most of the construction will be under the direction of Rappahannock School Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell, McCarthy will be involved as well.
• He is also looking forward to completing the resolution of the sale of the Aileen property. “We got ahead of a curve on this one,” said McCarthy.
• McCarthy is also interested in the Town of Washington’s pursuit of a sewer system and how it will affect the county.
As for personal goals in 2005, .McCarthy laughed, saying he rarely thinks of his own personal goals, but rather thinks of goals for his children. McCarthy is the father of four daughters, ages 17, 15, 10 and nine.
