For this work, and her leadership in the space sciences, she received numerous awards including the Strughold and Leverett Awards from the Aerospace Medical Association, the Jeffries Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and NASA’s Exceptional Scientific Achievement and two Exceptional Leadership Awards. She is a member of the International Academy of Astronautics and a Fellow of the World Economic Forum.
Vemikos, an advocate of space tourism, writes, consults, mentors and lectures on stress management and health benefits from space. On a personal note, Vemikos is married to Geoffrey C. Hazzan, has two children, Eftihia and George Danellis, and lives in Sperryville.
