Indeed, VOF seems to regard landowners now selling tax credits as “pioneers” — folks moving ahead before all the paper trails are clearly marked and travel procedures widely known.

Guideposts

There are, however, a few guideposts. There already exist in Virginia “tax credit brokers” who will collect your credits at 70 cents on the dollar and pass them on to others at 80 cents. So Barb and I decided to see if we could sell our credits privately at 75 cents on the dollar, in effect splitting the broker fee with the buyer.

Eventually, we sold our 2004 credits within the family at 100 cents on the dollar.
