Also going 2-0 in the Page County holiday tournament, the girls’ basketball team came within points in a heartbreaking loss to Madison County last week, 35-32.
Rappahannock held its own in the first period, ending 14-9, then coming out to command the second period to end the half 23-17.
“We won the second period, we just didn’t get enough to make up the difference,” said Rapp coach J.D. Almond.
Facing Madison’s halfcourt man-to-man press, the Panthers executed well when allowed time to set up its shots. Rapp’s turnover percentage was less than 20 in the game, the lowest it has been all season.
Rebecca Tupper led the Panther scoring with 10. Rapp’s Courtney Hutcheson followed close behind with nine.
