“My job gives me such a range of opportunity — I love my job, and I love the place I am in,” said McCarthy. He added that he has never been faced with making a moral compromise in Rappahannock County.

Biggest issue: the ECS

According to McCarthy, the most important issue facing Rappahannock County is the transition to an upgraded Emergency Communication System (ECS). While McCarthy realizes that converting to a 150 MHz system will not be an overnight project — or even a one year project — his goal is to have the beginning stages well underway by the end of 2005.

McCarthy would like to put the pieces in place for a five-year Emergency Communication System plan.

Of major concern is making the right choice of equipment without making mistakes financially.
