Franklin Montgomery Yowell, 79, died Jan. 21 at the VA Hospital Center in Washington, D. C.

Mr. Yowell was bom Oct. 30, 1925 to the late Lula Dodson Yowell and the late Jacob “Jake” M. Yowell in Rappahannock, and was raised in Slate Mills.

He graduated from the old Sperryville High School.

Mr. Yowell was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed baseball. During World War II, Yowell served in the European Theater.

He was a farmer with his dad and a lifetime member of F. T. Baptist Church.

A graveside funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27 at the Etlan
