For Miller, looking out over the farm that has been in his family for generations, watching cattle grazing on the hillside and bulls casually munching on silage, he would have it no other way.
“It’s in your blood,” said Miller. “We’re not rich, but we have a good life.”
According to the county’s revised Comprehensive Plan, Rappahannock County farms are slightly on the increase.
However, although the size of the farms in Rappahannock County has been decreasing, the quality of the products remains superb.
“Cattle (at Manor Farm) are raised naturally without the addition of hormones or feed antibiotics” said Rifaat.
This is part of the reason her commercial herd at Manor Farm has been recognized by the Virginia Angus Association for its excellence.
Putting all of the technical lingo into layman’s terms, Miller summed the evaluation up by saying, “you simply have to sell something the industry wants.”
