The event is more than a fund raiser. Cancer education takes place. Survivors walk the first lap, symbolizing the progress that cancer research has made.
Evening luminary ceremonies memorialize those special people who have lost their battles with the disease. Actual fund raising takes place before the event as relay teams’ members solicit sponsors for themselves and their teams and through other activities such as bake and yard sales.
Last year, the Rappahannock County Relay raised almost $50,000. There were 25 teams and everyone had a good time under sunny skies.
It is hoped that the weather will cooperate for this year’s event, that more money will be raised to help in this worthwhile effort, and that everyone involved will have fun.
A good way to join in the fight against cancer is to join or sponsor a team or generously contribute to a team.
