Asked how he spends most of his time, Costello described his “day job” as one in which he paints scenery for theatre, motion pictures and television. He has worked on sets for the movies “Mystic River,” “Spider-Man,” and “Angels in America,” Broadway plays such as “Hello Dolly!” and television shows including “Conviction” and “6 Degrees.”
Bom in upstate New York, Costello began drawing as soon as he “could hold a crayon,” drawing constantly and filling reams of paper. His specialty was creating characters, one of whom “lived on the upper-right-hand comer of (his) eighth grade assignments, and whose adventures were of continuing interest to the entire class.”
Costello, under the auspices of Rappahannock Alliance for Arts in the Community (RAAC), also visited Rappahannock Elementary School throughout the week.
“David entertained all students extremely well and left our Rappahannock students with a wonderful memory of their first author visit,” said Rappahannock Elementary School Librarian, Barbara Wheatley. “We really enjoyed having David here.”
During his stay in Rappahannock, he was the guest of Kevin Adams and Jay Brown, coowners of the newly renovated Gay Street Inn. Kevin Adams is also a friend of Ms. Zylonis, and he will be visiting WCDS the week of November 6th to share his talents on landscape painting.
