The area around Father Trinh’s church was flattened by Katrina’s winds and a tidal wave of about 25 feet high that reached three miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. Clermont Harbor is in the vicinity of Waveland, MS, generally identified as the epicenter of the worst hurricane to hit the United States in decades. Thousands of homes in the area were washed away or blown apart in the storm, leaving most of Father Trinh’s parishioners homeless refugees.

With the help from St. Peter’s and other volunteers, St. Ann’s church has been restored, as was the parish rectory. A school building used for religious classes is in the
