Craig Mello is four years older than Principal Mello, which leaves the school official with many memories of their boyhood. One story that he likes to tell people is when he shot his older brother with a rubber tipped arrow from a toy longbow that he got for his birthday. “Craig disappeared into the basement for a few days and came out with a working crossbow,” said Roger with a chuckle.
Principal Mello is the youngest in the family while Craig is the second oldest boy. They also have one older brother, Frank, and their oldest sibling is their sister, Jeanne. Their father was once the the director of Smithsonian National History Museum.
