The American Boy choir returns to open the series on V Sunday, Oct. 29. Long established as the premiere hoys •*? concert choir in the USA, its members come from around - the country to pursue a rigorous academic and musical curriculum in grades 5 through 8 at the only non-sectarit?i#n residential boy choir school in the nation. Renowned worldwide for appearances with prominent orchestras, on TV, radio and movie soundtracks, their program will : include a medley of gospel and spiritual songs.
On Sunday January 7, Gian Carlo Menotti’s one-act opera Amahl and the Night Visitors makes an hour-long - - ' presentation includes beautiful music, colorful characters and costumes, dancing shepherds, and a miracle. The first opera written for television, this holiday masterpiece has been a classic since its debut on Christmas Eve, 1951. The cast of superb singers features accomplished young Ned Hollinshead Sieverts as Amahl and his mother, Barbara - Hollinshead, as The Mother. One free ticket for children if. age 12 and under will be included with each subscription, marking this first Family Concert.
Changing pace on Sunday, Feb. 11, the Calder ’ Quartet’s four youthful members will take a cue from their - namesake, the great American visual artist Alexander Calder, as they search for new ways to stretch the bound> aries of chamber music and the definition of a string quar- * tet. The season comes to a close on Sunday, April 22, with | tile virtuoso American Brass Quintet. Hailed as the High Priests of Brass” by Newsweek, the Quintet is Ensemblein-Residence at The Juilliard School and Aspen Music ; , Festival. Founded in 1960, their discography exceeds 50 recordings.
