Jessamine Hill sits atop a knoll, just off Tiger Valley Road, at the end of long, straight driveway. A small bridge leads over a stream, and from afar, the home dominates the view. An original brick center hall Georgian home, with additions on each side, Jessamine Hill speaks of another life, when friends came to visit on by carriage or on horseback, when the ballroom rang with the Virginia Reel, and when the formal dining room was filled with the scents of roast venison and wild turkey. It’s hard to believe that the current owner, John Anderson, a native of Rappahannock, had thoughts of bulldozing the whole edifice when he bought the property several years ago, but luckily for all of us, he persevered through the restoration of the home, and is still passionate about filling it with furniture, paintings and artifacts true to the period when Andrew Jackson was president.
