Uncle Willie would come in, and say good morning to my Mom. And here, I must digress just a bit. Uncle Willie had a saying that \ye all remember today. When you asked how he was doing, he would almost always say he was doing OK. I never heard him complain. If you went further and said he looked well, he would smile, with that twinkle in his eye, and say, “Well, there never was anything wrong with my looks.”

After exchanging a few morning pleasantries with my Mom or Dad, Uncle Willie would glance behind the stove, and see me there, but would not acknowledge me. He would ask my Mom, “Is Dickie-boy around?”

And Mom would play the game and say, “He’s around here somewhere, Uncle Willie.”

And Uncle Willie would say, “I wanted to see if I could get him to sit with Bess while I go to town. I have something for him.”
