Guitarist Laurence Juber will return to the Theatre at Washington, Virginia to give a solo concert on Saturday, October 14 at 8 p.m. He is one of the world’s foremost acoustic guitarists, and a celebrated practitioner of finger-style guitar playing.
Juber was bom in London and started playing the guitar professionally at the age of thirteen. He quickly became a featured soloist with England’s National Youth Orchestra and while still a student at London University, he played in several of London’s West End musicals, including Jesus Christ Superstar.
In 1978, Paul McCartney asked Juber to become the lead guitarist for his band Wings. He recorded and toured with Wings for three years. He won the “Best Rock Instrumental” Grammy award for the track Rockestra from the album Back to the Egg. After Wings folded in 1981, Juber moved to California and continued his career as a solo artist and arranger. His guitar playing has been featured in several major films, and he has numerous television credits.
Among many artists and groups with whom Juber has worked are George Harrison, Ringo Starr, A1 Stewart, and The Monkees. Later this month, and in November, Juber will appear as special guest with A1 Stewart at concerts in England, including the Royal Albert Hall in London and at Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool.
