Nicholas will remain working in Washington, D.C., where he lives with his wife Gardiner sand his two sons ages 1 and 3. Nicholas and Gardiner plan to remain in Washington D.C., sending their children to school there. “We still want to spend as much time as we can exploring the property,” said the thrilled new landowner, “It’s a treasured piece of land in the county.”
The Laphams worked with realtor Alan Zuschlag, of Armfield, Miller & Ripley, Fine Properties, LLC, who is also a member of the advisory board of the Krebser Fund.
“I am personally delighted as a farmer that it will stay as an organic farm,” said Zuschlag, “The family has a long history of stewardship in and out of the county... it will be excellent for the local farm and the community at large.”
Historic treasure
Established in 1720, Sunnyside Farm is among America’s oldest farms. Nick Lapham describes his family as private people who want to maintain Sunnyside as an organic farm. “We have no intention of dividing it or developing it,” he promised. “We want to maintain the rural ethic of Rappahannock County with its agricultural background and its scenic beauty.”
