Historical Society's Meeting
The Rappahannock Historical Society’s Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, October 8, from 2 p. m. to 5 p. m. at The Conyers House off Route 231 and left on Route 707. Watch for signs. The day will include a tour of this historic establishment now celebrating 25 years as a Bed and Breakfast, and the FT Baptist Church next door. Members and prospective members are invited to attend. Please bring a lawn chair, a dish to share and an item for our Silent Auction. The meeting will begin promptly at 2:15 p. m.

at the Library Series: Smoke and Mirrors: Photo Journals
of Frank and Esther Schmidt
The Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community(RAAC) will host photo-journalists Esther and Franklin Schmidt for October’s Series event. The Schmidts have written three books and contribute regularly to over 15 national magazines .They will be giving us an insider’s view of the difficulties of producing 2-dimensional images from 3dimensional subjects {interiors and spaces that they travel country to shoot. The Series is presented at 8 p. m. at the Rappahannock County Library and is free to the public. No reservations are necessary.

Betty Washington Lewis"
The Daughters of the American Revolution will hold their 11:30 a. m. meeting at the home of Cathy Champigny. The program “Remembering Betty Washington Lewis” will be presented by Mrs. Guy Oldaker of “Western View”. Betty Washington, the younger sister of George Washington, was bom in 1733 and died on March 31, 1797, while visiting her daughter in Culpeper County. The Oldaker property is the resting place of Betty Washington. For more information, call Maggie Francis at 540-987-8291.

50th anniversary celebration
Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company will celebrate their 50th anniversary with cake and beverages on October 14 from 10 a. m. to 3 p. m. The event will consist of fire equipment display and Open House Children Fire Prevention Training/prizes, free blood pressure screening and snow cones and cotton candy, smoke detectors and batteries.
