The Department of Animal Care and Control seeks to hire someone who is not only willing to care for and enjoys working with animals but who is also people oriented, self motivated and dedicated to improving the welfare of animals at the animal shelter, located 10 minutes west of Leesburg near Waterford, VA. The successful candidate2s primary function will be to help meet the basic health and welfare needs of the various types of animals in residence. Duties include cleaning of cat cages and dog kennels, feeding animals, administering medications, assisting with adoption matchmaking, and, when necessary, performing euthanasia. The Department boasts numerous innovative programs designed to improve the lives of shelter animals, such as our Canine Companion Readiness and Feline Enrichment programs, and employees are provided the opportunity to participate in these efforts. Candidates must be available to work all shifts, including mornings, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Requires a High School diploma and at least one year of job-related experience. Basic knowledge of and experience handling dogs, cats and other companion animals is required. Experience in a kennel or veterinary office is preferred. Must have the ability to control large and potentially dangerous animals over 100 pounds and lift animals weighing up to 75 lbs. Successful candidate will undergo a background investigation, physical exam and drug screening. Must possess a valid driver's license and obtain certification to perform euthanasia within 6 months of hiring. (Hiring Range: $28,216 - $38,092/ yr) Closes: 10/15/2006 07-113.
