On Oct. 17, the County Planning Commission recommended approval for Fletcher’s conference center. He will have to go before the planners again with a new application before his proposal can be considered by the Board of Supervisors.
The planning commission is not scheduled to meet in November and Fletcher said he will not be available for the commission’s Dec. 19 meeting, so he is planning to go before the commission on Jan. 16. If that schedule holds, the supervisors will address his application on Feb. 4.
The supervisors were scheduled to make a decision about Fletcher’s application Monday evening. They had anticipated such a large audience for the meeting that its location was changed from the County Courthouse to the auditorium at Rappahannock County High School.
Now that Fletcher has withdrawn his proposal, McCarthy said the board’s evening meeting has been moved back to the courthouse.
Roger and Sophie Scruton, the owners of Montpelier, are scheduled to go before the supervisors on Monday with a conference center application of their own. Montpelier is located across F.T. Valley Road from the Miller Farm, and is therefore in the StonewallHawthome District.
The planning commission recommended approval for the Scrutons’ conference center in September.
McCarthy said the Scrutons are free to proceed with their application, but he has asked them to table their proposal so the supervisors can consider permits for both conference centers at the same time.
