Transportation Funding Bill. This ig the law that slapped additional fines of up to $3,000 on top of the current penalties already imposed on those convicted of reckless driving and other infractions, with the additional moneys going to fund badly needed road construction.
At first glance, this all seems well and good, but consider this: these fines will be slapped against Virginia citizens only. Thurists from New York, New England, or even Maryland, heading south down 1-95 to play golf in Myrtle Beach, or spend a week in Disneyland, will get a free pass; the only people who will be expected to dig deep in their pockets are those who live and work in the Old Dominion. What is it about “equal protection under the law” that our current representatives don’t understand?
