Scholastic Bowl format. All six Bull Run District teams play each other on the same night. In previous years, the Panthers played just three teams.
This is also the first year that Madison County has entered a team.
“The team did well considering the new format* Naser added. “ It was grueling to play five matches instead of three, but I was pleased. We were highly competitive. If we keep it up the way we are, I predict great things for this season.”
Each match consists of 50 questions. A correct answer is worth 10 points. If a player interrupts the reading of the question and his guess is wrong, the team loses five points.
The Panthers rolled through their first four matches, defeating Strasburg 22570, Clarke County, 255-80, Manassas Park, 230-70 and Madison County, 240-70.
“We were tired at the end,” Collins said, “but no one was mentally exhausted.”
In the win over Strasburg, sophomore Brittany Clatterbuck came up with two answers in the opening round as Rappahannock County jumped out to an 85-10 lead. Junior Chase Tupper’s two answers in the final round help to seed the win.
Against Madison, the Panthers closed the directed round with six consecutive correct answers from Collins, senior Alana Cloud and juniors Kristin Williams and ' Samantha Schwar. Then, sophomore Joe Vickers started the fined round with a quick answer to extend the
