Rappahannock County played host to the Bull Run District’s cross-country teams on Oct. 24 as runners from six schools descended on the rolling hills behind the Blue Rock Inn for the annual district meet.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, the home team did not seem to have much of an advantage. Neither the boys nor the girls teams qualified for the regional meet.
The boys squad finished sixth at the district meet; the girls finished fifth. Only the top four teams from each district move on to regionals.
One Panther, however, still has at least one race to run before her season ends.
As one of the top 15 finishers at the district meet, Brittani Dodson earned a spot at the Group A, Region B meet, which was Wednesday in Charlottesville.
Despite a sore knee, the ninth-grader ran the 5-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 33 seconds. She placed 15th out of 37 runners.
