District.
“It broadens the tax base without placing an unnecessary draw on county services,” said Hodge Miller; who also lives in Hampton District.
Further outcry has come from the planning commission’s decision to recommend a more lenient set of limitations for the Miller Farm than for Montpelier.
The Scrutons met with their neighbors and agreed on a set of conditions for use of their property as a conference center. The planners received their proposed conditions and approved them without any opposition.
Those conditions included a limit of 12 outdoor events per year, with no more than two per month from May through October. Four of those events may have up to 300 guests and the remaining eight must have no more than 200 guests.
Another condition of the Scrutons’ application is they will not be allowed to hire a firm to manage events on the property.
Fletcher drove a harder bargain with the planning commissioners and the planners gave him more leeway. He also said he plans to lease the property to a company that will manage the events and bed and breakfast.
