In a few days buses will start rolling, doors will swing open, and bells will start ringing as students begin another school year.
Thinking of school, we are reminded that Rappahannock County High School's beginnings were 50 years ago when in July 1959 work crews began jugs for the building which was to become Rappahannock County High School. The original building with its seven pastel-colored classrooms opened September 1, I960 with 275 students.
Alvin L. Atkins, my late husband, quit his job with the highway department and became the first custodian of the new school, being hired by the late O. A. Norton, who was superintendent of Rappahannock and Warren county schools. Alvin took great pride in his work there and was a hard worker putting in many hours beyond the
