“Clancy just did famously,” said Tester, “sadly, he didn’t live as long as we thought he would.”
Purgason lovingly turns over each page pointing out a holiday here or a visit there with Clancy by her side. He was spoiled sporting color-coordinated matching collars, leashes and uniforms bearing his welldeserved title: Certified Assistance Dog.
“When you have an assistance dog, they go everywhere with you,” smiled Purgason who is more confined to her home now and less able to take long walks. And, currently, she is without a dog.
In addition to her assistance dog training, Tester breeds, raises and shows English Springer Spaniels. She works with many of these puppies to eventually place them with clients who are disabled. “I have a client in California,” said Tester, “who is a bilateral amputee and I’m training one of these puppies to fit her needs, I already know what she will require and once the dog is out there, we can fine tune.”
