When schools closed for the summer, the cleanup, painting, waxing, and any repairs began along with the grass mowing.
As the years went by, the school was enlarged and in 1968 I was hired by the late O. A. Norton to work at the school as assistant and substitute cafeteria worker.
Alvin retired from the school in 1974 and I quit my job. We worked on our small acreage where we raised cattle, hog, chickens and a garden and then had more time to devote to church work.
In January 1985, our Lord called Alvin home to rest where we believe he heard the words, “Well done, there, good and faithful servant.”
In August 1987,1 went back to the high school - this time hired as cafeteria manager by Dr. Bob Chappell - and worked for 20 years retiring in 2007. Between the two of us, my late husband and I spent some 40 years at Rappahannock County High School.
