Assaulting

police officer

Michael Lee Fincham of Culpeper will appear in Circuit Court here on Aug. 25 for a trial on charges of assaulting a police officer, escape, obstruction of justice and driving while intoxicated in relation to a traffic accident on March 28.

According to Commonwealth Attorney Peter Luke, an accident occurred along Route 211 that was investigated by Virginia State Police. An investigation resulted in the arrest of Fincham with charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence.

While being booked at the Rappahannock County Jail, said Luke, Fincham attempted to escape resulting in the additional charges mentioned above.

Bad checks

Last week. Crystal Compton of Castleton, pleaded guilty to writing several bad checks - some of which were to Hackley’s Store and Laurel Mills Store - and then last Thursday pleaded guilty to forgery also. She had taken two of her mother’s checks and attempted to pass them forging her mother’s signature, according to prosecutor Luke.

Compton’s sentencing is on Oct. 16, according to Luke.
