Going on vacation? You took care of the newspaper, the mail and the dog, but how about your trees?
Trees are the last thing you need to think about before leaving for vacation, but if you don’t there may be problems when you get home. Summer droughts are a common occurrence in all parts of the country.
While established trees can easily withstand a couple of weeks without irrigation, new transplants cannot. If you have planted a new tree anytime within the last year, it should be watered with at least 10 gallons per ween. Ask your landscaper or the person who is looking after your house to run the hose to the new tree once or twice a week while they are doing their other jobs. It is not much extra work and it could save your tree.
Summer thunderstorms are also a common occurrence in all but a few areas of the country One flash of lightning can destroy any tree in an instant. Large, valuable trees are most susceptible to being struck. Lightning protection is one of our most dependable services, and we have never had a reported case of a protected tree being severely damaged by lightning.
