The Rappahannock Planners voted to recommend that the Board of Supervisors deny a rezoning for C. L. Goode’s proposed Mountain Slopes Subdivision.
The courtroom in Washington was packed for last Wednesday’s Planning Commission public hearing on the rezoning for the Flint Hill development.
Despite Chairman Herbert Barksdale’s efforts to keep comments relevant, heated exchanges between proponents and opponents frequently drifted off the issue and onto personal questions centering around “newcomers” versus “oldtimers”, the future of farming and needs in the county for moderate income housing.
Park Thompson, a Manassas attorney representing Goode, made the first remarks. He noted that the developer’s plans had already received both Health and Highway Department approval. “Mr. Goode feels this is the highest and best use for the property,” said Thompson,
